Maury is a surname for a family of early settlers in Middle Tennessee.

Family Origins

The Maury family descended from French Huguenots who fled from Gascony to Ireland after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. In 1716, Matthew Maury married Mary Anne Fontaine in Dublin. The Maurys emigrated to Virginia in late 1719.
